Popular San Antonio shopping center evolving into entertainment hub

The intersection of San Pedro Avenue and Loop 410 is interesting. North Star Mall has dominated the area for decades, but it’s not really been a place you could spend a day. Of course, there’s Alamo Drafthouse and the Laugh Out Loud Comedy Club across the street, but office spaces, a random university and errand spots have dominated the area in recent years.

It seems like that’s all about to change.

Devry University abandoned its massive post at the Park North Shopping Center, and other less desirable spaces have vacated recently. In their place, a series of entertainment spots are cropping up. As a result, Park North is transforming from what could once be described as an oversized strip mall to a sort of entertainment district in its own right.

The shopping center, nestled along the edge of Loop 410 in between San Pedro Avenue and Blanco Road, has grown its entertainment offerings. PINSTACK opened its first bowling alley in San Antonio at the site in 2022, beating out The Rim’s digs that opened two years later.

Where Devry University once took up a massive space to the right of Alamo Drafthouse, a new indoor pickleball court, Outlaw Pickle, is slated to open its doors. It’ll boast 21,000 square feet with a pro shop, live music with a dance floor to match, a gaming area and five air conditioned pickleball courts that embrace a Western theme (it’s Texas after all)…
