Five Texas congressmen are demanding the Pentagon remember San Antonio as it folds two Army headquarters at Fort Sam Houston into a much larger one in North Carolina.
Led by U.S. Rep Tony Gonzales, R-San Antonio, the bipartisan group of Central Texas lawmakers added a requirement to the Defense Department’s 2026 budget that requires it to “take into account San Antonio’s well-established military infrastructure and geographical strengths” while determining where to put the new organization.
The amendment is the latest reaction to Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s April proposal to reorganize the Army. It calls for merging Army North and Army South, two headquarters currently at Fort Sam, with Army Forces Command at Fort Bragg, N.C…
