San Antonio police: Fight leads to shotgun blast near child; 1 man injured

SAN ANTONIO — A man was assaulted and a shotgun was fired near a 1-year-old girl during a chaotic fight between several individuals on the city’s west side Tuesday afternoon, according to San Antonio police.

Officers responded around 4:30 p.m. to a report of a shooting in progress near a convenience store in the area of South Richter Street and El Paso Street. Authorities said they found signs of an altercation involving multiple people.

An SAPD lieutenant said the altercation eventually led to gunfire when one of the suspects “grabbed a shotgun and fired it from the other side of the fence, probably a good 35 yards away.” They were initially concerned a child may have been hit, but EMS personnel found there was no evidence of injury related to the shooting.

The incident began with a fight involving a group of people jumping a 25-year-old man, police said. The victim sustained a laceration to the back of the head, believed to be from a 2×4 or another wooden object…
