Latest details in the murder case of Las Palapas founder Ron Acosta

The investigation into the murder of the founder of Las Palapas, Ron Acosta, continues. The beloved businessman was brutally stabbed by a relative at his home on the Northside of San Antonio on July 1, according to the San Antonio Police Department.

David Ruiz, 38, was formally charged with the murder of Acosta on Tuesday, September 23, according to court records. In Texas, felony charges require a grand jury indictment to proceed to trial. With the indictment being issued, the case can proceed to the next steps of a possible trial. Court records show Ruiz will appear at a pre-indictment setting on October 1.

The formal charge comes nearly three months after Acosta’s death. Ruiz was visiting San Antonio from California and was invited by Acosta to stay with him, according to the San Antonio Police Department. On the day of the murder, officials said an argument occurred between Ruiz and Acosta. Police were then called to the scene after a housekeeper found Acosta with multiple stab wounds in the garage of the home in the 19200 block of Reata Trail, which is in the Stone Oak Parkway area…
