San Antonio-born taco chain quietly closes nearly 10 locations across the city

From its roots as a local favorite homegrown taco stand that opened in 1978 in a former Dairy Queen at San Pedro and Hildebrand avenues, Taco Cabana has grown into a national chain with more than 150 locations.

In 2021, Yadav Enterprises Inc., the largest franchisee of Jack in the Box and TGI Friday’s restaurants, added Taco Cabana to its portfolio in an  $85 million deal.

But the brand’s exponential growth may be slowing, at least in its hometown, as a handful of area restaurants have been quietly closed in San Antonio…
