San Antonio City Council Approves Fire Department Needs Assessment for Equitable Emergency Services

San Antonio City Council has greenlit funding for a San Antonio Fire Department Needs Assessment, a move spearheaded by District 2 Councilmember Jalen McKee-Rodriguez. The council approved the assessment which aims to evaluate the Fire Department’s staffing, equipment, and facilities to ensure equitable emergency services throughout the city.

The assessment, part of the Fiscal Year 2026 budget, seeks to address community concerns regarding station coverage and response times. “Public safety is one of the most essential services our City provides,” McKee-Rodriguez said in the statement. “This assessment will give us the data we need to invest wisely, identify gaps, and ensure that every neighborhood receives the highest standard of protection our firefighters are capable of.”
