TEXAS — Among the thousands of federal workers in San Antonio now driving to the food bank instead of the grocery store is federal worker Vicente Palomo.
“Even the first check, it wasn’t a full 100% check for me,” he said. “It’s because the government shutdown.”
The San Antonio Food Bank started afternoon food distributions specifically for federal workers and their affected households. Approximately 3.5 million Texans could look toward food banks without Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. The U.S. Department of Agriculture put a notice on its SNAP page that, “Bottom line, the well has run dry. At this time, there will be no benefits issued November 01.”…
