This month, the Bexar County District Attorney’s Criminal Trial Division successfully secured two separate murder convictions, resulting in nearly 80 years of combined prison time for the defendants.
In the 226th District Court, Judge Benjamin Robertson sentenced Ronald St. Amie to 40 years for the shooting death of 32-year-old Miguel Angel Garza. The incident occurred at a local hotel, where Amie approached Garza and his companion and asked if they had marijuana. After being told no, Amie became upset and fired multiple shots, injuring one person and fatally striking Garza. Assistant Criminal District Attorneys Raul Jordan and Cassandra Rosales led the prosecution with support from Victim Advocate Brandy Jimenez and Investigator Jorge Felan.
In the 437th District Court, Reynaldo Rios was sentenced by Judge Joel Perez to 38 years for the murder of 25-year-old Angelina Hernandez. Hernandez had arranged a meetup with Rios via Instagram near her apartment complex. Rios shot Hernandez and fled the scene. Law enforcement later sought public assistance through Crime Stoppers to identify him. Rios eventually turned himself in and provided a statement, claiming he acted out of fear over a financial dispute.
