The City Council approved a plan to limit future heavy industrial operations in a swath of the the East Side after residents complained about dust, fumes and safety concerns.
Council members voted 8-1 on Thursday to change the zoning on 470 acres bounded by Frost Bank Center Drive to the west, railroad tracks to the north, Salado Creek to the East and Willow Springs Golf Course to the south.
Members of the United Homeowners Improvement Association — which includes the Willowwood, Meadowview and Meadowview North subdivisions — told council members they are tired of dealing with noise, traffic tie-ups and odors from truck yards and equipment and materials suppliers.
