‘Kids eat free’: San Antonio eateries offer free meals amid SNAP lapse

As the government shutdown continues into its seventh week this Wednesday, benefits to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, otherwise known as SNAP or food stamps, have lapsed — meaning at least 275,000 Bexar County residents on the program could be struggling to afford their monthly grocery expenses.

Many of those affected are families with children, placing thousands of San Antonio kids at risk of going hungry. To help ease the strain, here’s a list of a few eateries in the city offering free fare for children.

Sari Sari Filipino Restaurant

  • What: Kids eat free with the purchase of any entree.
  • When: All day on Tuesdays.
  • Where: 5700 Wurzbach Rd.

The Dogfather II

  • What: Kids 12 and under eat free with the purchase of any hot dog or burger.
  • When: All day on Wednesdays.
  • Where: 13032 Nacogdoches Rd., Ste. 201
