SAN ANTONIO – A new federal bill aims to require businesses to accept cash for small purchases, despite the major push towards cashless payments.
HR 1138, also known as the Payment Choice Act of 2025, was introduced to the U.S. House in February, with the goal of requiring retail businesses to accept cash as a form of payment for on-site sales of $500 or less.
