State Rep. Trey Martinez Fischer takes pass on Bexar County DA’s race

The race to determine Bexar County’s next District Attorney is a little less crowded after State Rep. Trey Martinez Fischer, D-San Antonio, filed Monday to run for yet another term in the Texas House.

Despite being poised to enter the DA’s race as a frontrunner, the longtime lawmaker said in a statement to the Express-News that his public service is desperately needed in Austin to fight Gov. Greg Abbott’s proposed rejiggering of the state’s property tax rules.

“Governor Abbott has made it clear that his top priority in the next session is dismantling the tax policies that fund our public education system,” Martinez Fischer said in a statement to the daily. “We need a strong, veteran Democratic voice at the table.”…
