San Antonio TV personality fulfills personal dreams one degree at a time

KABB San Antonio reporter Yami Virgin’s family used to tell her to make a difference and to make it count, and she’s surely not shying away from the challenge.

“They always would tell me, ‘Don’t forget where you came from, and the importance of what you do, and you’re representing not only you as a human being, but you as a woman, you as a Latina, you as a woman whose family came from Panama, and you’re an immigrant in the U.S. And make it count,'” Virgin explained.

On Friday, December 12, Virgin officially received her Master’s in Digital Audience Analytics from St. Edwards University in Austin, Texas. However, a Latino graduation ceremony took place on Saturday, December 6. Joined by her daughter, who is also pursuing a degree at St. Edwards and walking alongside her, in a cap decorated by her coworker and fellow reporter, Jordan Elder, Virgin took several steps closer to starting yet another program at St. Edwards (this time for a doctorate in leadership and higher education), all while working full-time as an investigative reporter…
