‘These bullets don’t disappear’: San Antonio leaders warn against celebratory holiday gunfire

San Antonio city leaders and police are renewing warnings against celebratory gunfire, stressing that the practice is dangerous, illegal, and can carry serious consequences.

Recklessly firing a gun within city limits is a Class A misdemeanor under Texas law, punishable by up to one year in jail and fines up to $4,000, according to the City of San Antonio and San Antonio Police Department.

Authorities warn that bullets fired into the air eventually come down, often landing far from where they were shot, while also putting people and property at risk.

The reminder comes as part of the city’s “Call the Shots” public awareness campaign, which was launched in June. ahead of the major holidays to curb celebratory gunfire. The campaign was approved following increased reports from residents, particularly around New Year’s Eve and the Fourth of July…
