TxDOT: Major 18-wheeler crash shuts down part of I-35

A major crash has led the closure of a busy San Antonio highway. According to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), the crash happened just before 4 a.m. on the southbound lanes of I-35 at New Laredo Highway on the city’s Southside. It’s not far from the Loop 410 interchange, maps show. The crash does involve an 18-wheeler according to traffic monitoring site SigAlert.

All southbound lanes of I-35 are shut down as a result of the major crash. TxDOT says all traffic is being diverted off the highway. SigAlert reports traffic is backed up to Somerset Road.

It’s unclear how long the highway will be shut down for or how many vehicles, aside from the 18-wheeler were involved. No word on any injuries either. If this is your route this morning, you may want to give yourself extra time or look for an alternative route. SigAlert shows cars moving as slow as 1 mile per hour as many cars are at a standstill trying to get off the highway…
