Aurora-like lights illuminating San Antonio skies may not be what you think

Did you wake up to an abnormally colorful San Antonio sky, even before the sun came up?

In a TikTok video posted on Monday, December 29, and viewed more than 70,000 times, one San Antonio resident spotted what seems to be aurora-like lights in the sky around 6 a.m. that day. In the caption, @butterflyeffectbydesi chalked it up to “the effect of the strong winds we’re having today.” In fact, there were gusts of up to 50 miles per hour reported in the area, according to the National Weather Service, and thousands of San Antonians lost power for a short period.
