S.A. area needs pipeline of transit projects, agency’s new leader says

A regional transportation agency that plays a key role in deciding how to spend billions of dollars of federal funding is about to get a new leader.

The Alamo Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, commonly known as AAMPO, has appointed as its new executive director Brendon Wheeler, a professional engineer who most recently served as senior program manager for metropolitan transportation planning at the North Central Texas Council of Governments, an organization coordinating regional projects in the Dallas-Fort Worth metro area.

Wheeler was chosen through a nationwide search conducted after the prior executive director, Isidro “Sid” Martinez, stepped down at the end of 2024.
