San Antonio to tear up rainbow crosswalks after judge denies call to halt the work

City workers will begin tearing up the rainbow crosswalks at the heart of San Antonio’s Pride District on Monday after a district court judge on Friday denied a temporary restraining order to stop the removal.

The city had planned to remove four crosswalks at the intersection of North Main Avenue and East Evergreen Street by Jan. 15 and replace them with standard black-and-white stripes to comply with Gov. Greg Abbott’s directive to remove “political ideologies” on roadways or risk losing state and federal transportation dollars.
