San Antonio restaurant lands in bankruptcy, says it’s victim of loan-to-own scheme by lender

The owner of Lucy Cooper’s Ice House in San Antonio has sought bankruptcy protection, blaming its woes on a lender’s alleged financial scheme that “squeezed” the business out of two of its three restaurant locations.

In a bankruptcy court filing, Lucy Cooper’s LLC says it needed outside financing in 2024 to keep up with its day-to-day operations and possibly expand the business.

Bellaire’s Savvy Holdings Texas LLC stepped in to provide financial assistance. Now, Lucy Cooper’s accuses Savvy of using “one-sided financial loans and change of control agreements” to orchestrate a “predatory loan-to-own scheme to gain control of Lucy Cooper’s business and finances, loot and waste those business assets, and cripple” the business by burdening it with debt…
