San Antonio nonprofit hit by $5M federal cut in mental health funding

SAN ANTONIO – Federal cuts to substance abuse and mental health funding are having an immediate impact in San Antonio, where a local nonprofit says the sudden loss of millions of dollars in grant money could put vulnerable residents at risk.

The San Antonio Council on Alcohol and Drug Awareness (SACADA) confirmed it has been notified that the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has terminated four of its federal grants totaling more than $5 million, effective January 13, 2026.
