Construction brings major traffic shift to San Antonio area

After years of traffic headaches, upgrades are set to come to a new stretch of a notoriously congested road in San Antonio. Residents based on the Far Westside have been calling for improvements to their neighborhood streets, and the state has tuned in.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) will begin working on FM 471 at Culebra Road to SH 16 at Bandera Road this coming fall. A recently filed state report cites that construction tasks will commence on Friday, September 11.

According to the filing, work will include widening the already present two lanes to four lanes and adding a raised median or center lane. It also involves the implementation of bike lanes, sidewalks,  ADA curb ramps, and traffic signals.
