January is widely known as a slow month for restaurants, but a San Antonio chef said that this January has felt slower than normal at his Deco District taqueria for several reasons, including fears about ICE raids in the city.
On Tuesday, January 27, Tacopolis chef Alex Paredes took to Instagram to share some struggles that the business has been experiencing over the past several weeks, asking for patrons to visit during this trying time. MySA visited Tacopolis the following day to talk more with Paredes about what’s been impacting the restaurant.
“January is [a] very slow month, but I think this year, it’s just been like one [thing] after the other, like the weather, the ICE raids and all that stuff going around this neighborhood,” Paredes said. “The people that usually were here in the streets, like the gardeners, the plumbers, everybody, they’re just not here.”
