Popular buffet in San Antonio is an all-you-can-eat Mediterranean wonderland

You can find an assortment of all-you-can-eat experiences in San Antonio, ranging in price and culinary offerings, so to find the best ones, MySA asked readers to recommend their favorite local buffets. We took those suggestions to heart and narrowed it down to 12 — one for each month of the year. An impressive number of comments came in for Dimassi’s Mediterranean Buffet, so that’s where I started on this all-you-can-eat journey.

Dimassi’s Mediterranean Buffet, a chain from Houston, has one San Antonio location off I-10 near De Zavala Road, and parking at the restaurant is easy enough, with plenty of spaces to go around. Getting seated is just as easy, as Dimassi’s allows customers to find their own tables and help themselves to the buffet right away. There’s even a drink fountain for self-serve beverages and an area with silverware and napkin dispensers.

The dining room at Dimassi’s is all to one side, while the buffet spans along a wall from the front of the restaurant to the back. You can see the occasional kitchen worker replenishing various foods or pulling out fresh bread from the oven behind the buffet. After finding a table, I walked over to the buffet, grabbed a plate and proceeded to pick out whatever caught my eye.

The buffet starts with salads and cold items like hummus, and as you work your way down the line, you come across hot foods, including meats, breads and rice dishes. At the end, there’s a station with a few desserts, like baklava and jam cookies. I assembled my first plate with seasoned chicken and rice, za’atar pizza, pasta salad, okra and a kebab, with the latter item being one of my favorite bites of the meal…
