H-E-B Drops $21 Million on Converse Superstore With Gas and Suds to Go

H-E-B is doubling down on convenience at its new $21 million supermarket by the I-10 and Loop 1604 interchange, where shoppers will eventually be able to grab groceries, fill up the tank and run through a car wash without leaving the property. The project is aimed squarely at drivers in Converse, Schertz and the surrounding neighborhoods of northeast Bexar County, as reported by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

What’s Being Built

According to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, H-E-B has registered a 5,998-square-foot convenience store with an attached fuel station and car wash at the site, at an estimated cost of about $4 million. MySA reports that crews began work on the add-on buildings last month and that those structures are expected to be finished in October 2026.

Store Size and Timeline

The main supermarket is listed with the state as project TABS2025011323 at 10137 IH-10 E and will total 125,434 square feet with an estimated construction cost of $21,227,977, according to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The filing shows a Sept. 1, 2025 start date and a Nov. 30, 2026 completion date for the primary store.

Neighborhood Context

The new H-E-B will sit across I-10 from a Bill Miller Bar-B-Q that is also under construction, and it is roughly six miles from the H-E-B at 910 Kitty Hawk Road in Universal City, MySA reports.
