Global manufacturer sets target of bringing up to 300 jobs to San Antonio

A Japanese plastic manufacturer is aiming to create up to 300 jobs with a nearly $40 million plant on the South Side, which is fast becoming an industrial hub.

Sanko Texas Corp. is seeking a tax break from the county for the facility that will be its first plant in the U.S. The site also will serve as its U.S. headquarters.

The facility is still in the design phase, although operations are expected to begin in early 2028 — around the time that the Japanese company will hire about 100 people. But the goal is to build up to 300 workers, Sanko President and CEO Toshihiko Goto said at a groundbreaking ceremony for the plant last week…
