Popular comedian moves San Antonio show to avoid controversial crowd

A popular Texas-born comedian has rescheduled her San Antonio show after finding out a revue associated with controversial Austin-based comedian Tony Hinchcliffe was scheduled just steps away. Cristela Alonzo moved her Midlife Mixtape tour stop at the Charline McCombs Empire Theatre from April 11 to May 9, saying she didn’t want to expose her fans to an uncomfortable environment.

Alonzo said she learned from a fan that the Killers of Kill Tony tour, featuring comedians Ari Matti, David Lucas, Hans Kim, and Martin Phillips, had the same date booked at the Majestic Theatre.

“The majority of my followers are Latino, and in the time that we’re in right now, I do not feel comfortable having MY people around a demo that includes people that support [those] atrocious things that are happening to my community,” Alonzo explained on Instagram. “So, I’m looking to change dates for the San Antonio show that will ensure that my people have the best time, and where I don’t have to cross paths backstage with anyone I don’t want to.”…
