A dramatic scene unfolded recently in San Antonio, Texas, when a loyal dog named Rusty was left behind after his owner was taken into custody by police officers. The emotional moment was captured on video and quickly spread across social media, sparking widespread concern, debate, and a police investigation.
The footage, shared by a local animal advocate named Emily Casso, shows Rusty sprinting after a police cruiser as it pulled away from a gas station near South New Braunfels Avenue and East Southcross Boulevard on the city’s South Side.
The dog runs frantically beside the vehicle, barking and trying to keep up with his owner’s ride, as bystanders look on in disbelief.
Casso, who just happens to volunteer with animal care groups, had been filling up her car nearby. She expressed astonishment at the sight of the patrol car leaving without Rusty. She immediately started recording. In her own words, she feared for the dog’s safety in nearby traffic and was distraught that no one appeared to be looking after him.
