A nuclear research facility could soon rise just up the road from San Antonio as part of a large technology and manufacturing development, according to Chron.com.
Plans filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation show a proposed 7,600-square-foot tilt-wall concrete building at 2600 Mineral Springs Road in Lockhart, about 72 miles northeast of San Antonio. The building would house a nuclear research reactor, a reactor pool room, offices, equipment, and storage areas. Construction on the $23 million project began in 2025, according to the filing, which lists Hillside Architecture LLC as the design firm.
