San Antonio school children huddled in gym, cafeteria amid power outage

The mass power outage sweeping San Antonio has left one middle school in the dark well into Monday morning, March 16. Students are being huddled into the gym and cafeteria as officials hope to have power restored amid unseasonably chilly day.

Southwest Independent School District officials said Sunday that classes would resume Monday morning following spring break, even as a strong cold front caused power outages affecting up to 33,000 homes. The district notified parents that school would be back in session. At Scobee Middle School, students arrived to campus Monday morning while the area was still without power and temperatures were around 40 degrees.

“We are still without power and are working with CPS Energy to resolve the issue as quickly as possible,” Scobee Middle School officials announced at 9:45 a.m. Monday morning. “At this time, students will remain on campus and will not be released or transported to another campus.”…
