After nearly two decades of serving up plant-based comfort food, Green Vegetarian Cuisine will shutter its Alamo Quarry Market location.
In a Tuesday Facebook post, chef-owner Mike Behrend said the restaurant will end its 19-year run on Friday, April 17, due to escalating costs and changing consumer habits. The business did everything it could to keep the lights on, but the “brutal” conditions facing the restaurant industry became overwhelming, he added.
“It’s been a great run,” Behrend said. “We’ve introduced a lot of people to great-tasting plant-based food. My business partners and I have raised our children in and around Green, supporting the community with food and help over the years. Our hope is we made a positive impact on San Antonio.”…
