150-mile car chase ends with two smuggling arrests south of San Antonio

Two people accused of smuggling undocumented immigrants were arrested Friday evening after leading authorities on a 150-mile chase across South Texas, from the Laredo area all the way to Atascosa County.

The pursuit started on Friday at a Border Patrol checkpoint near Laredo, where authorities identified a car that was trying to smuggle people. The driver sped north toward Freer and continued all the way to Atascosa County — just 50 miles south of downtown San Antonio.

Multiple law enforcement agencies — including state troopers, Border Patrol agents and local police and sheriff’s deputies — were part of the pursuit, according to a Facebook post from the Atascosa County Sheriff’s Office…
