Everything we know about the deadly Hill Country school shooting 1 week later

It’s been one week since a 15-year-old Comal Independent School District student shot a teacher at Hill Country College Prep High School in Bulverde, Texas, before turning the weapon on himself. The high school campus will resume classes this week, but a number of questions about what led to the incident remain unanswered.

Officials not releasing IDs of teacher, student

The Comal County Sheriff’s Office has still not released the identity of the shooter or the teacher. A public information officer with the county told MySA that they plan to respect her families wishes in keeping her identity under wraps, saying the district is in close contact with her family for the time being. WOAI reported last week that the female teacher is in stable condition, though she remained hospitalized, as of Friday, April 3.

Campus security remains on high alert

Following the incident, Hill Country College Prep cancelled classes through the remaining week. The rest of Comal ISD seemingly remained on high alert. On Thursday, April 2, five district campuses were placed on a brief ”secure hold” after the Comal County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a potential school threat at a local high school. The law enforcement agency said at the time that deputies will remain at several campuses as a precautionary measure.

Police are investigating, say student used his grandfather’s gun

Comal County Sheriff Mark Reynolds said at a news conference on March 30 that the student’s family showed up at the student-parent reunification site at Bulverde Middle School last week, seemingly searching for their child, but were instead met by law enforcement officers.

Investigators confirmed the student used a .357 revolver brought to campus from his home. According to the San Antonio Express-News, the gun belonged to the student’s grandfather…
