San Antonio woman convicted of filing false tax returns

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A federal jury has convicted a 45-year-old San Antonio woman on 11 counts of aiding or assisting in the filing of a false tax return, according to the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Texas.

Natasha Sheree Banks-Brown, who owned and operated “Tasha’s Total Tax Service” since 2016, was found guilty of filing tax returns with false deductions and credits, significantly increasing refunds for her clients, according to court documents. The investigation by IRS Criminal Investigations began in December 2020 after noticing an increase in questionable returns prepared by Banks-Brown.

Banks-Brown allegedly used tax preparation software to deposit refunds into a bank account she controlled, later transferring a portion to her clients. Multiple clients testified they never received or reviewed their tax returns and were unaware of the fraudulent actions.
