Cold front to plummet Texas temps, bring storm risk to major cities

Spring is when Texas sees its most volatile weather, and this season is truly keeping Texans on their toes. A strong cold front barreling toward the Lone Star State this week is set to drastically drop temperatures, but it comes with a side of storms as many major cities are still recovering.

This burst of cold air should first breech the Texas border Tuesday night, May 5, dropping temps in the Texas Panhandle by more than 30 degrees in a matter of hours. The afternoon high on Wednesday should hover in the upper-50s to mid-60s for the entire region, and some cities on the northern end of the Panhandle will actually dip below freezing Wednesday night.

“Another push of cold air will move in from the north Wednesday evening,” the National Weather Service Amarillo office reports. “Frost and freeze conditions look likely Wednesday night across much of the [region], and some locations in the northwestern Panhandle may even see a hard freeze.”…
