(FOX 5/KUSI) — After six weeks of declining gasoline prices, this Fourth of July may have the second highest gas prices for the holiday ever.
Gas prices spiked earlier this year after the U.S. war in Iran, with oil prices hitting $114 a barrel. In April, San Diego County’s average gas prices even surpassed $6 per gallon. While the county average has fallen to $5.52 per gallon, fuel savings company GasBuddy projects the national average to be the second highest for the Fourth of July ever.
“Six weeks of declines sounds like good news, and in some ways it is, but the context matters,” Head GasBuddy Petroleum Analysis Patrick De Haan said. “At roughly $3.75, this would be the second most expensive July 4 ever recorded, roughly 65 cents higher than last year and nearly $1 above where prices started in 2026.”…
