The Defense Health Agency (DHA) has designated the Maxillofacial Restoration Program at Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) as a Department of Defense Specialty Center of Excellence, recognizing the program as a leading military center for treating complex facial injuries and related conditions.
The designation, effective May 18, establishes NMCSD as a regional referral center and sets a standardized model of care for service members and eligible beneficiaries with severe facial trauma, head and neck cancer, and congenital or disease-related conditions affecting the face, mouth and jaw.
