Illegal fireworks warning after Scripps Ranch incident

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — San Diego city firefighters are warning residents about the dangers of illegal fireworks after an unknown number of people set them off early Tuesday morning at Jerabek Park in Scripps Ranch, alarming neighbors and raising concerns about wildfire risk.

Residents reported hearing a barrage of fireworks around 1 a.m., just days before Independence Day celebrations.

“I literally thought it was gunfire going off,” said nearby resident Cheri Southwick. “I jumped up out of bed and pushed my husband, and he said, ‘I think it’s fireworks.’”…
