City of San Diego services impacted by Fourth of July holiday: Parking, trash collection and more

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — With the Fourth of July falling on Saturday this year, several administrative offices and other services throughout San Diego County will be closed Friday, July 3, in observance of the holiday.

From trash collection to parking fees, several services will be impacted by the holiday weekend.

Here is a list of which city services will be impacted by the holiday:

Trash Collection:

  • Curbside trash, recyclables and organic waste will be collected as scheduled for customers served by the City’s Environmental Services Department on Friday, July 3.
    • Residents with private hauler collection services should check with their provider for holiday service schedules.
    • Delivery of new light blue recycling bins will continue as scheduled.
  • Miramar Landfill, Greenery, Recycling Center and Mattress Collection Site will be open Friday, July 3 (closed on Saturday, July 4).
    • The Household Hazardous Waste Transfer Facility will be closed on Saturday, July 4.

Parks & Recreation:

  • All recreation centers will be closed on Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4. They will resume their normal operating hours beginning Monday, July 6.
  • Swimming pools open with holiday hours from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, July 3, include:
    • Allied Gardens
    • Bud Kearns
    • Carmel Mountain
    • Memorial
  • Swimming pools open on July 4 include:
    • Bud Kearns
    • City Heights
    • Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
    • Ned Baumer Aquatic Center
    • Swanson
  • Balboa Park: Public buildings in Balboa Park, including the Botanical Building, Municipal Gym, Morley Field and Balboa Park Activity Center, will be closed on July 3, and July 4.
    • Check individual museums for their holiday schedule.
  • Barrett, El Capitan, Hodges, Lower and Upper Otay reservoirs will be closed Friday, July 3
    • All other City reservoirs will be open during regular operating hours as well as on July 4
  • Mission Trails Regional Park and Mission Trails Regional Park Visitors Center will be open on Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4.
  • City golf courseswill be open on July 3 and July 4 and will close at dusk (holiday rates apply).
  • City skate parks, plazas and the Pacific Highlands Ranch Pump Track will be open July 3.
  • Dog off-leash areas will be open both Friday, July 3 and Saturday, July 4.

Lakes and reservoirs:

  • Barrett, El Capitan, Hodges, Lower and Upper Otay reservoirs will be closed July 3.
    • All other City reservoirs will be open during regular operating hours and on July 4.
  • Chollas Lake will be open, weather permitting.

City Offices:

  • All City of San Diego administrative offices will be closed on July 3.
  • The Office of the City Clerk will be closed on July 3.
    • Passport services will not be available to customers served by the Office of the City Clerk.
  • Street Sweeping: There will be no street sweeping on Friday, July 3.

Public Safety:

  • San Diego Police and San Diego Fire-Rescue emergency crews will not be impacted

Parking Impacts:

  • Parking meters, time restrictions for parking on streets, yellow zones and posted street sweeping routes within the City of San Diego will not be enforced on Friday, July 3, and Saturday, July 4.
    • All other parking violations will be enforced
    • Parking rules on Port of San Diego property and in different cities may vary
