Ex-San Diego deputy gets 5 years for excessive force, lying in report

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A former San Diego County Sheriff’s Deputy was sentenced in federal court to half a decade in prison for using excessive force on an inmate and failing to get medical help, then lying in a report to cover it up. The judge commented that they were haunted by a photo of the deputy who was seen smiling while walking away from the victim as they laid next to a pool of blood on the floor of their holding cell.

Former San Diego County Sheriff’s Deputy Jeremiah Manuyag Flores, 45, of La Jolla, was sentenced in federal court Tuesday to 57 months in jail, just under five years, the Department of Justice in Southern California announced.

Flores was convicted of violating the civil rights of a pretrial detainee by using excessive force that caused a spinal injury, then lying in a report to cover up his illegal conduct…
