SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A medical emergency on a flight from Hawaii to Southern California caused the plane to turn around and head back to Hawaii.
Flight 512 took off from Honolulu Tuesday night and was in route to San Diego with an early morning arrival when a passenger had a medical issue mid-flight, causing the crew to declare an emergency and turn the plane back around, landing in Honolulu again, Southwest Airlines confirmed to FOX 5 San Diego and KUSI.
San Diego-Tokyo flights to become daily due to high demand
According to Southwest, the flight was routed back to Hawaii because of an FAA mandated demarcation point which determines if a flight will turn back to Hawaii or continue to its destination.
Flight 512 was still in Honolulu Wednesday morning. Southwest said the plane was scheduled to depart later Wednesday once a new flight crew was ready.
“We apologize to the customers for the inconvenience. Nothing is more important to Southwest than the safety of its customers and employees.”
