Jury finds Larry Millete guilty of first-degree murder in Maya’s death

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — After nearly two months of powerful testimony from more than 60 witnesses and the presentation of hundreds of evidence exhibits, the 12-member jury in the Larry Millete trial was unanimous in finding him guilty of first-degree murder after just under five hours of deliberations.

Just before 3 p.m. Thursday, a crowd of both Maya’s and Larry’s friends and family members began to gather outside the courtroom as news of the approaching verdict was announced.

Maya’s sister, Maricris Drouaillet, who made the initial phone call to police when Maya went missing, was crying hysterically as she entered the courtroom, walking arm in arm with her husband.
