Woman, 80, seriously injured in crash after running red light

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — An 80-year-old woman was seriously injured after a two-vehicle crash in the San Carlos neighborhood on Thursday morning, authorities said.

According to the San Diego Police Department, the collision happened around 7:48 a.m. at the intersection of Jackson Drive and Navajo Road.

Police said the women was driving a white 2015 Honda Civic northbound on Jackson rive when she entered the intersection against a stale red light. At the same time, a 36-year-old man driving a gray Kia Sorento was traveling eastbound on Navajo Road and struck the Honda broadside.

The women suffered a fractured shinbone and calf bone, along with a displaced hip. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Her current condition has not been released.
