Massive Waves Force Rail Closure Between Orange County And San Diego

Massive waves washing over railroad tracks in San Clemente forced another disruption of Amtrak and Metrolink service between Orange and San Diego counties Saturday afternoon.

On September 6, 2026, passengers at the Irvine Transportation Center were alerted to track closures caused by high tide and weather conditions along the coastal rail corridor.

Amtrak Pacific Surfliner Train 580 was seen arriving at Irvine, where passengers were instructed to detrain and board a bus that would connect them with another train in Oceanside.
