Authorities identify one of two victims in San Diego Labor Day plane crash

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — One of two people who died in the plane crash at Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport on Labor Day has been identified by the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.

According to authorities, Roger Shimizu, 45, was one of two people aboard a Cessna 172 when it crashed and caught fire at the airport in San Diego’s Kearny Mesa neighborhood on Monday.

Fire personnel had to extinguish the fire before retrieving Shimizu, who was pronounced dead at the scene, the medical examiner’s office said. The other person, who also died when the plane went down, has not yet been publicly identified…
