A 70-year-old woman suffered a brain bleed Saturday after a driver turning left struck her while she crossed 44th Street in a marked crosswalk on Landis Street in Fairmount Village, according to the San Diego Police Department. She was transported to a local hospital, and while her injuries were serious, they reportedly do not appear to be life-threatening.
According to FOX 5 San Diego & KUSI News, police say a 36-year-old man was driving a Chrysler 300 westbound on Landis Street when he stopped at the stop sign there before turning left onto 44th Street. The Chrysler allegedly struck the woman as she crossed in the crosswalk, per SDPD. The crash happened in Fairmount Village, a City Heights neighborhood with mixed single-family and multifamily development, according to the City of San Diego. Under California Vehicle Code Section 21950, motorists must yield the right-of-way to pedestrians in marked or unmarked crosswalks and are required to reduce speed and exercise due care, according to Justia Law.
