SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — People taking public transportation in San Diego County will see fares go up starting this week, according to local transit agencies.
The changes were recommended after a multi-phase study and gathering of public feedback by the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS), North County Transit – San Diego Railroad (NCTD) and the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) to help alleviate budget shortages in the next few years, officials said.

On Thursday, one-way adult regional PRONTO passes will go up 50 cents from $2.50 to $3 and one-way SDM/youth regional fares will go up 25 cents from $1.25 to $1.50.
