Governor Newsom signs two bills designed to clear legal hurdles for Midway Rising

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Midway Rising is one step closer to reality after Governor Gavin Newsom signed two bills aimed at clearing legal hurdles for the controversial project.

“After decades of talking about Midway’s future, it’s time to start building it,” said Mayor Todd Gloria in a video message shared on X Tuesday evening where he thanked Newsom and the author of both pieces of legislation, State Senator Akilah Weber Pierson (SD-39).

State Senator Steve Padilla (SD-18) and Assemblymember Chris Ward (AD-78) also coauthored the bills.
