Pipe failure prompts emergency repairs in Del Mar Heights

DEL MAR HEIGHTS — City crews conducted emergency stormwater repairs today in Del Mar Heights to fix a storm drain system and stabilize a slope along Del Mar Heights Road between Crest Way and Durango Drive, with work expected to continue for months.

According to the city, a deteriorating metal pipe failed along the slope near the road, causing erosion and sidewalk damage. Repairs were being made ahead of the winter storm season, which weather experts said could bring heavy rain, strong winds, mountain snow and coastal flooding associated with an El Niño cycle.

City crews will work Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Traffic impacts on Del Mar Heights Road include temporary lane closures on both sides of the road. Drivers can expect delays in the area…
