The disgraced sheriff’s deputy is finally out of jail. Most of his victims have already collected settlements from San Diego County taxpayers.
Now what appears to be the last chapter in the sad and stunning case of a sexual predator who for years preyed on women under the color of authority has come to a close.
In a ruling issued last month , a Superior Court judge awarded more than $90,000 to the lawyers who represented A.C., one of former deputy Richard Fischer’s many victims.
“There is no dispute that (the) plaintiff is entitled to reasonable attorneys’ fees,” Judge Katherine Bacal wrote in her order. The defense team asked for just over $167,000, but the judge allowed $92,378 to the lawyers. She also approved $6,616 in court costs.
A.C., whose full name was withheld from county court records to protect her identity, previously accepted a $100,000 settlement of her lawsuit against San Diego County. The attorney fees and court costs pushed expenses related to that one case to nearly $200,000.
