Driver ejected, killed in I-805 crash

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A driver died and a passenger was injured Tuesday in a crash on Interstate 805, authorities said.

The solo vehicle collision occurred around 3:01 a.m. on southbound I-805, south of Adams Avenue, in North Park, Salvador Castro with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) said in a news release.

The driver, identified as a 30-year-old man, was driving a gray Ford Focus on I-805 southbound when the vehicle went off the roadway and crashed into an embankment, according to authorities.

Man shot dead in East County

The impact caused the driver to be ejected from the vehicle, per CHP. He was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries, while the passenger was able to exit the vehicle with minor injuries.

Authorities shut down the right two lanes of I-805 southbound to investigate.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine if driving under the influence was a factor in the crash.
